This is a compilation of newspaper and magazine articles written by Thomas Hauser on Muhammad Ali and other subjects in the world of boxing. Most articles are of the length you’d expect in a newspaper column: about 3 pages of fairly large type.
If you enter this book with the proper expectations, you probably appreciate it a lot. Hauser has rubbed many boxing legends, and shows the enthusiasm of a sports columnist and knowledge of the great sport of boxing.
But I think it is important to emphasize that this book is not, because I found the book appeared to be somewhat misleading. The title and a statement pre-covered with a foreword “Muhammad Ali” led me to believe that the bulk of the book would be about Ali. In fact, only 40 of over 270 pages of coverage Ali, and the preface is a three-point disappointingly brief.
Nowhere on the front or back cover is it mentioned The book is a compilation of newspaper articles, and there is an implication that the reader will have in-depth coverage of the world inside the boxing pro. However, the format of a newspaper column does not allow the author to touch briefly on issues within the sport, and many columns of the agreement with the question of the day. Be prepared to read three or four praiseees sing the praises of a boxer you’ve never heard of, without any type of surrounding context to let you know what became of him. There is also some repetitiveness which is fine for a regular column, but tedious to those who read the book in just a few sessions.
Looks like I’m slamming the book but this really is not my intent. The writing is crisp and clear, Hauser expressed interesting positions on some interesting topics, and there is very charged and very convincing cover of Muhammad Ali, perhaps the greatest living legend in the world today. ” , br />
If you know what you get is a pretty good reading. But if you think you get in-depth coverage of the world inside of boxing, or a book on Muhammad Ali, the buyer, beware!

I loved this book.
easy to read – it is light and simple in its approach – he floats like a butterfly. . . well. . . you get it. What we have lots of articles with introductions Thomas Hauser very intelligent and interesting to each article.
I did not put it down – it is fun, exciting, entertaining, informative and fun – Yes, I said fun twice.
Hauser is a humble and modest man – he knows Muhammad Ali, he has interviewed and hung out with more of a boxer and has been involved in and with the history of boxing – but he remains incredibly humble and at the bottom – the book Ain ‘t it, but it is a part of it – very well done.
more important – he mentioned Butterbean not once, but twice! – And the quote!
is a great, fun, exciting, entertaining, informative and entertaining book – you do not want to stop reading – each article is like a potato chip Pringles – you can not stop with one.
