can you train for boxing but not actually fight, or is that considered bad etiquette?

I want to start boxing training in proper order to tone up and get fit. I am Prepared to put in a lot of hard work and diet etc. Properly. However, For the Time Being i have no interest in boxing Actually, I simply want to train. Is it possible, to do this at boxing gyms, or is it regarded bad etiquette?
