The first European to become heavyweight champion was Max Schemeling of Germany in 1930 when he defeated Jack Sharkey by 4th round DQ due to a foul. Max was also the first man to defeat the mighty Joe Louis in 1936.

There were three European heavyweight boxing champions in 1985 the first one was a bloke called Steffen Tangstad who was norwegian he first became champion in 1984 but lost it in 1985 to Anders Eklund from sweden who relinqised it soon after. The third one to hold that title in that year was Frank Bruno who won the vacant title later in that year.
